Art has no boundaries, it can go beyond the usual aspect. Every expectation turns out to be unexpected at a certain time, when art opens its horizon and adds different color in its board.

This unusual approach towards art started between world war 1 and 2 in Europe as movement in visual art and literature known as Surrealism. The art initially taken off from the Dada movement, was all about anti-art. The Dada art consisted of breaking all the stereotypical ways of art where logic, reason and aestheticism didn’t exist. And so surrealism turned reality to surrealism. This mind boggling art was very well contributed by some of the famous artists like- Jean Arp, Max Ernst, Andre Masson, René Magritte, Yves Tanguy, Salvador Dali, Pierre Roy, Paul Delvaux and Joan Miro.

Surrealism strongly influenced the world of fashion. And when we mention fashion and surrealism the first name, that strikes our mind is Elsa Schiaparelli. The designer brought the surreal art in her designs. She included the surrealism ideas of Salvador Dali, Man Ray and Jean Cocteau. The surrealist art occupying its space in clothing and accessories always fascinated everyone.

The designers like Alexander Mcqueen in his spring 1997 show, “La Poupee” was dedicated to the surrealist photographer Hans Bellmer, Hussain Chalayan, Yves Saint Laurent where Tom Ford reinterpreted the Schiaparelli skeleton gown into clothing embellished by skulls, fabrics of woman anatomy and many more, Jean Paul Gaultier in his 2006 collection, Dior and many more fashion designers and brands created this extraordinary relation of surreal fashion. They took this art form in their designs and created fashion beyond imagination.
