BANDHANI

It takes four month to a year to create a Bandhani masterpiece.

India has always been rich from the cultural grounds. The colours, textiles, prints, crafts has created a very strong impact everywhere. The incredible history of India is reflected in its art form and we Indians feel proud to exhibit our beautiful Indian prints in what we wear. One of the most unique and famous prints in the Bandhani print. The word Bandhani is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Banda’, meaning tie. As the name suggests the way of how the print is created, the intricate work of tie and die is required to create the print.

Found mostly in Gujarat, Rajasthan and parts of Uttar Pradesh. This technique initially originated from and China and slowly adapted in western part of indian sub continent.The print is achieved by tieing knot on different areas in a piece of cloth,which when dipped in dye is resisted from dying and so the print is created.Its value depends on the fine dots and precise knots.

Bandhani have different patterns too named as Shikari, Chandrakhani and Gharchola, depending on how the knots have been tied on the cloth. It takes four month to a year to create the masterpiece. The bandhani prints are worn and gifted in many Indian rituals with pride. Figurative patterns such as elephants, parrots, peacocks etc which has its emotional connection to the person wearing it and so very close to them.
