Architecture, music, fashion overall it was a new lifestyle. It was a major path breaking cultural movement in the till 1980’s and continued to influence people around the world till date. The movement saw a revival among the audience of Gothic rock, an offshoot of the post-punk genre. Gothic fashion started as an alternative to the popular bright cheery fashion of the times. It is a very expressive and almost dramatic style with the followers adhering to dark, mysterious, sometimes antiquated Gothic themes in their makeup, hairstyle and clothing. The culture grew and was soon divided in subcultures – Deathrock , Haute Goth, Gothic Lolita, Aristocrat, Cybergoth, Traditional Goth. In today’s world the goth prints are influenced from imperial architecture, dark magic and Satanism. We can easily connect modern day gothic prints with medivial age structures and patterns.

Ogee
Ogee gets its name from the architectural arch it resembles. The arch is formed at the connection of two, mirror image, elongated S shapes.

Matelassé
French term meaning quilted or padded. matelassé fabrics don’t actually contain any padding. Matelassés are typically solid colors and are great for pillows, bedding, and more.

tracery pattern
Tracery is the name for the stonework supporting the glass in a gothic window. During the 12th and early 13th centuries plate tracery was used, whereby geometric shapes were cut out of the wall.

Damask
Damask fabrics feature patterns of flowers, fruit and other designs and are usually monochromatic. Damask designs are popular today in wallpaper, table linens, and upholstery.

Gothic rose
Petal-like shape formed by its tracery – became a key feature of gothic churches. As gothic architecture developed, the form of the rose window became increasingly intricate and sophisticated, often encasing elaborate, stained-glass panels.
