Pop art and Prints

A classic art movement that emerged simultaneously in Europe and America that presents a whole new way of art display. The movement presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane mass-produced cultural objects. Since this genre of art was displayed onto the products of daily needs other than traditional methods of art display. So, the style rapidly became popular amongst the masses. Catchy colors with peppy message soon became favorites of the crowd.  One of its aims is to use images of popular culture in art, emphasizing the banal or kitschy elements of any culture, most often through the use of irony. It is also associated with the artists’ use of mechanical means of reproduction or rendering techniques. In pop art, material is sometimes visually removed from its known context, isolated, or combined with unrelated material. The term “Pop Art” was coined in 1955 by Lawrence Alloway, a British curator and critic which simply meant popular art. Some of the most well-known pop artists began their careers in commercial art. Andy Warhol, James Rehnquist and Claes Oldenberg to name a few. Andy Warhol was responsible for bringing Pop Art into the public eye with his Campbell’s soup cans and Coke bottles. Works that now sell for millions. Much of pop art is considered incongruent, as the conceptual practices that are often used make it difficult for some to readily comprehend. Pop art and minimalism are considered to be art movements that precede postmodern art, or are some of the earliest examples of Post-modern Art themselves. This art soom became unstoppable into commercial as well as artistic world, it spread as an epidemic throughout the worls affecting lifestyle of commoners and advertising strategies of commercials. Soon the style was also adopted by the fiction and journal cartoonist and within no time the art was also conveying the social messages. Today, Pop Art is stronger than ever, not very old but from approx. 70 years, it continues to fascinate our culture to this day.   In our day to day life we always come across this art and barely even notice, it has become so much embedded in our lifestyles.
