Peng Wei Silk shoes

An incredible amalgamation of art and footwear has been seen through different designers. And so, when Chinese artist Peng Wei touched the handcrafted silk shoes with her brush, it completely made it something to talk about. The traditional Chinese style paintings, in silk shoes, look fascinating, for her project titled Good Things Come into Pairs, which very well defined the artwork.

The amazing pair of shoes contains a very natural vibe in it. As it is made up of traditional materials and classical Chinese paintings. The artist has a long list of work, where her incredible artwork is executed through different mediums. She is always in search of mediums to highlight her cultural heritage, with a theme in her head, defining femininity and tradition in a very creative manner.

The story behind this particular artwork is very profound. As the Chinese culture, followed the custom, where every young girl’s feet had to be wrapped with tight bindings.Which then followed by covering it in a silk slipper, in order to restrict the growth.

The silk slippers and wrapping not only restricted the growth, but was also a symbol of distinct status. It was even treated as a sign of epitomized femininity and beauty.

As believed that the restricted foot, even enhanced the walk of every woman making it more elegant and attractive and even added a class to the women doing so.

All these stories behind the binding of foot made it a symbol of tradition in many nearby places in the country where it was practiced.

Wei just used this tradition, transforming it into more stronger emotions. The series of painted silk shoes opposed the ideas of femininity and beauty through stripped shoes into admirable objects. The artist continued doing such work where she combines antiquity with modern themes making them more unique.
